Each year there were new set of kids that were all wanting to be part of the elite set of victors in the best district in Panem. Some were great, but most would fall to the wayside by the end of their training. It was a rat race and it was only the first step to success. It had to be hard. However, with the recent losses, Reverie was thinking that maybe it wasn't hard enough. And the best person to talk to it about was the one success he had had.

A note was left for Fiona to meet him at his family's winery for a tour and tasting of the wines that they had been making that year. It was an exclusive trip and one of the best that the district had to offer. Or maybe it was the best.

Reverie waited at the entrance with a glass of light white pinched between his fingers. It was just a small amount, just enough to get the taste. He paused his nose over and took in the aroma closing his eyes for just a moment. He hoped that Fiona would accept his invitation. She would be the only one around even brave enough to turn the Victor down anyhow.

Fiona had actually considered ignoring the note when she found it. Not because she didn't like Reverie, but simply because sometimes the princess couldn't be bothered to go out. Sometimes she just wanted to snuggle up in her big, comfy bed with a bottle of wine. Actually going out took effort to make sure she looked nice and that was generally just a pain in the ass to deal with.

If Reverie was inviting her to some super exclusive wine tour at his family's winery then maybe there was something important that he wanted to talk about. Which meant games talk and that was another factor in her decision. Was she up for that kind of talk right now? She figured it would have to happen sooner or later. She couldn't avoid him forever.

The deciding factor ended up being the wine though. Whatever they would get on the tour would taste much better than what she had here at home, she knew that for a fact because one of her favorite's came from his family and what she had right now was not that. Plus it meant she could save this one for later.

Once she finally made the decision to go she got herself all dressed up. Once she was satisfied she made her way from the Victor's village to the Winery. His eyes were closed and he was taking in the scent of some wine when she approached. "Started without me I see." she commented, raising an eyebrow as she stopped in front of him and crossed her arms over her chest.

His eyes flit open when he could feel the deep stare coming off of his fellow victor. They hadn't worked together for long, but that was long enough to know they had gone without a win for far too long. But, not long enough to get along seamlessly. Reverie had been used to being the center of attention, even if he knew that her win had boosted his popularity. His lips moved into a thin and sly grin as she came closer and closer.

Finally, he leaned forward and pressed his cheek to one side kissing air and then did the same to the other side. It was a rich sort of greeting for the richest taste in the world. Reverie looked down at the sweet white wine that was in his hand. He lifted the matching glass from the table and handed it towards her with a slight twitch to the right corner of his lips.

"Never. But, glad to see you came and I can finally take a sip." The small amount of golden liquid was rotated within the glass as he lifted it to his lips and took a sip of the wine now that she was there to enjoy it with him. It was pulled away and he gave a shrug of his shoulders. "Definitely like it dryer." He finished it off and set it to the table.

"Shall we?" He gestured to go to the hall where they could continue down the hall to see some of the barrels and take their next taste. This winery went all out. There was no sitting and simply drinking. No, they would get the whole experience. "Have you met the potential tributes for this year?" He rose a brow and came to the next. The first had been the equivalent to a Moscato... and now they were coming upon a riesling.

When Reverie leaned forward for the air kisses she did the same, kissing air on the opposite sides to return the annoying little greeting. It wasn't a big enough deal to make a fuss over, but it was a greeting that Fiona herself wouldn't have chosen. No matter, it seemed to fit Reverie very well and thus she was not at all surprised by it. She was actually surprised to hear that he hadn't started without her.

She took the glass of wine she was handed, allowing herself just a moment to take in its scent. "What a gentleman you are, waiting for me to start." she said with a bit of a grin. Not that she honestly would have cared if he actually had started without her. She was the one who had been considering not even showing up. She moved the glass to her lips and took a sip to properly taste it before she drank the rest of it and placed her empty glass beside his. "Not surprised. I like it sweet." She shrugged a bit. It seemed their tastes fit them pretty well.

Fiona gave a nod and a smile. "We shall. You weren't lying about this being an actual wine tour." she commented. She was expecting to maybe just sit and talk here over wine. This was much more interesting, but of course it was almost immediate that he brought up the tributes. She gave a tired sigh, but she did actually answer him. "Yes I have. I've spent time with some more than others, but I have." she shrugged a bit. She hung around the training center often. She was actually pretty involved with the whole thing. Sometimes she just needed a break and left it up to the trainers.

Reverie walked through and looked at the barrel room. The wine had been sitting for years and years as it fermented to the perfect quality. There were still some from the year that he won the games, that was a special one that only the Splendor family thought of keeping. It was all the best for this family. And he actually hadn't taken the fellow victor on a tour yet, which was surprising considering how much he liked to show off himself and his family.

They paused at another table that had a blush colored wine. It was another sweet wine. A pink moscato or something like that. Something that Fiona would probably like. It was just the way to taste. They would start with the light and sweet and end with the dark and dry. He gave a nod and sipped at the glass as he took a moment to enjoy it.

"I wouldn't lie to you. And you haven't done it before. Figured it was about time." He could have done it earlier. But, Reverie always found himself caught up in something. Whether it was illicit affairs or just standing on a pedestal for people to appreciate, he was always up to something. He had even been training the tribute more and more lately. He needed to do something after so many losses.

"Any names to note?" He raised a brow as he finished off the last of the rose colored wine before gesturing to follow to the next one. "We need a win. We need a plan." He spoke bluntly and not really in questions, but it was Reverie's own way of asking if she had ideas to go forward.

Fiona walked along with Reverie, pretending to be interested as she looked around the barrel room. They had a lot. There were a lot of dates, but it wasn't really much of a surprise. It wasn't like Reverie ever tried to be incredibly humble about all his family had. Not that there was any reason he should be. if you had it, you might as well flaunt it to anyone and everyone. Such was the way with people in district one.

She picked up the next glass of wine and swirled it around a bit before she looked up to Reverie and gave a bit of a smile. "Well thank you." she said simply. She would have been fine without the tour honestly, especially considering he was only doing it now because he wanted to discuss tributes. She definitely would have been better off staying curled up in bed with her own wine, but here she was.

She took a drink of the wine as he asked his question, but as she was pondering he continued to speak. "We need a change." She added onto it. "But we both know that's not going to come easy." They needed to do a better job of picking which tributes were going to go into the games and making sure they stuck to that. Clearly basing it all on who could be the most likable was not working for them. "I've been trying to get to know them more outside of the training center..."

Fiona finished the wine and set the empty glass down. "I'm liking Theodore Havilliard currently." she added, to answer his question. Girls she wasn't ready to pick from, but Theo was one she had been getting to know quite well.

Nobody likes change. Especially this victor. He had overreacted when it came to Antiope skipping the rules and volunteering herself before Phaedra had been able to. It looked like a joke and Reverie took it as a slap to his own integrity. But, sometimes, when they went enough years without a victor, they needed to reinvent what they were going to do.

Getting to know the tributes on a personal level was not something that Reverie was interested in doing. He didn't want to get attached to the ones that were going to die. Not that he had a heart to begin with, but he didn't need any of them falling in love with him or misinterpreting the sentiment. Reverie always had a habit of sleeping with a number of his past tributes and even some of the trainers.

"Theodore Havilliard." He repeated the name as he swished the blush colored wine around in the glass before finishing it off. Reverie didn't think that it rang a bell, but if Fiona thought he was worth looking at and perhaps the front runner when they would hold the panel... well, he would maybe attempt to meet with the boy before the Reaping. The flute was put back to the tray.

"Shall we?" He gestured to the door that lead out into the vineyards. At least it was a beautiful day. The majority of their grapes were shipped in from District Eleven, but there were a few special hybrid varieties that they grew a few vines in the back. They were for the really expensive flavors. "Have you thought about what we would do to change?" She stated that they needed to... but did she have ideas?

Fiona had sort of known that even Reverie wouldn't be excited at the prospect of change, but when something wasn't working...that was what had to be done. Their current tactic clearly was not working and Reverie at least saw that and knew something needed to be done whether he liked it or not. She finished the wine she had in her hand a lot quicker than he did, not really bothered by savoring and tasting it that much at this point.

She nodded as he repeated the boy's name, but he didn't say anymore so he either was holding back for some reason or he didn't really know much about him. Fiona knew. Fiona had watched him train. She had taken care of him. Had invited him into her home and cared for him when it seemed that he had no one who actually cared about him. She had done some digging after that to see what else she could find out.

"Of course." She said softly, moving out the door that he had gestured to. It was nice out and the vineyards were at least a pleasant sort of scenery. She had admired them from afar before on her walks, but she'd never been so close. Her mind was more focused on the conversation than the grapes though. "I have. I think we are basing things too much on who can charm their way into our favor. In the process, ignoring key details." she explained.

She crossed her arms over her chest and looked around for a moment. "A tribute needs more than what we are looking at..." she said quietly. "Take Theodore for example. He has already endured so much pain in his life. He is stronger for it. He isn't full of himself. He isn't cocky, but I have watched him train. He has the right skills. The right drive. The right fire." she started, thinking for a moment though as she walked along with him.

She thought back to the evening that she had come across Theo, crying alone in the shadows. Everything she had seen in him at that moment. "He has the story that will capture the hearts of the Capitolites. He is the complete package in every way. Yet, he could very easily be overlooked by the panel for the more...in your face tributes trying to weasel their way into the spot." She stopped and turned to look at him.

"We need to start looking harder. Deeper. We need to consider everything about these potentials before we make a decision." Fiona finished. It was why she liked getting to know them on a more personal level. Attachments would fade. She was no stranger to death and losing someone she loved dearly. Losing a tribute who she was slightly attached to was nothing.

For over a hundred years their process had worked just fine. Except for the many years where money played a large role in who was picked. Reverie could be easily swayed by the money and favors offered up to him by the parents who were willing to give up the most when it came to getting their child into the games. He knew it wasn't the right way, but Rev had always been about himself. And even now as he listened to Fiona talk he wondered what he would do without some of those lovely kickbacks.

There were the Goldon's who had a son that could take that spot. He had flaws. His fighting had never been the best. And there was a Aquarite boy who had the moves. Boy, did he have the moves, but he fell down the ugly tree and hit every branch to the ground. It was the only way that this Victor could put it. Theodore wasn't even on the radar. It was obvious when Fiona started to describe him. He wasn't "in your face". And that was a fault. But, he had made an impression on his partner mentor.

There was a table set up with some chairs. A chance to finally sit down accompanied by six glass of red wine. There were three for each of them. A variety going from sweet to dry with little cards describing them leaning against the stems of the glasses. Reverie sat in a chair and gestured across. They were in the middle of a vineyard with the best of wines on a beautiful sunny day and they were plotting their success in the Games. There was nothing better than this.

"If you trust in him. I will vote with you on the panel." That meant that Theo had a lock-in. The mayor and the other judge wouldn't likely vote for the same person. Theodore would be in. "The girls right now, I'm guessing are a little more complicated. I haven't seen a single one I'd like." And now that was instant double meaning for anyone who truly knew Reverie. Not that he wasn't interested in seeing who this Theodore was, he definitely did. He had taken a few years off from preying on the tributes and maybe that was making them weak.

"However, if we follow the same criteria and look for something different, something more. Maybe deeper questions in the interviewing." He was obviously brainstorming out loud before he settled on taking a sip of the dark, dry red wine. "Anything else?"

Fiona wasn't the type to accept bribes from parents to get their kids into the games. She didn't think of buying your way into something was really earning it and she was all about actually earning your spot. It was like how Antiope hadn't properly earned her spot. She had just taken it and that hadn't made her like the girl at all. The problem was though, that she had trusted Reverie's opinion of tributes without much questioning. So, if they had bribed him and he told her a good enough story of why he was picking them, she would simply go along with it without much trouble.

This time though, she was pretty set in wanting to send Theodore in. Sometimes flying under the radar wasn't actually a bad thing and she was quite sure that this was one of those cases. It was always such a shame when those who really deserved something were overlooked simply because there was someone else who could be loud and outgoing. That's why she wanted to look at things more carefully from now on. Make sure those who were out there actually had what it took and those who were more quiet didn't get passed over.

Fiona took her seat at the table and began to look over the wine in front of her until he mentioned voting with her. She gave an immediate and confident nod. "I definitely trust in him. Out of all the other boys, he is definitely the one." she stated. She was glad that he was willing to vote for him with her. Knowing now also meant that the two of them could start spending more time with him. Preparing and training him just that much more. "Girls are always more complicated. It's in our nature." she shrugged a bit, seeming to not be bothered to figure out how he actually meant what he said. She knew of Reverie's ways and it simply wasn't her place to care what he did."We still have a bit of time. I am sure one will step into the spotlight soon enough." she added.

She reached over and picked up a glass, starting with the dryer of the wines so that she could save the ones she would like the most for last. "I think deeper questions in the interviewing would help. Maybe some background digging as well." she added. "And, I plan to keep doing what I am doing to get to know them...I know you have your own ways of going about that." It wasn't like she was asking Reverie to take the kids out to lunch and shopping and things like she did to get to know them. She could relay anything she found out from it to him. They just needed to work as a team, which didn't seem too hard.

This was likely the longest time he had ever listened to another person's opinion in his entire life. Reverie had never really been one to include others in what he did, but there was something wrong and he was tired of being a joke in Panem. Or maybe that was something that was all in his head, but he needed the attention back on One. Four was showing them all up, they would have targets on their backs while One could triumph.

Girls were complicated. Reverie already knew that part. His brows lifted and moved. "Maybe if we have our guy... we see how he gets along with the girls that are in this year's class? We haven't had a good strong District partner alliance in many, many years." He didn't think that it would be the key to success, but he was sure that it would be a goal they could shoot for. It was easier to manufacture a good pair instead of counting on an alliance coming together in the pregames.

"I do." He laughed a bit to himself as he took another sip of that last dark red wine. It was his favorite and for good reason. It reminded him of himself in too many ways. And that was when his eyes looked over to Fiona with that smug smirk he could be known for. It was a mixture on those who found it charming and those who knew he was one of those villains who would use and abuse. "Except it never seemed to work on you, Fiona."

Fiona thought about his idea for a moment, swirling the little bit of wine around in the new glass that she had picked up. She really hadn't drank much of the wines that were set out for them at the table, her mind actually on something other than a good drink for once. This was important though, even to her. As for his idea. That was probably the best way to go at this point. At the very least they could include his opinion when they made their final decision.

"I think that could actually work. I am just not sure how much Theodore actually talks to the girls in his class. He definitely isn't much like you, Rev." she said with a grin. At least Theodore hadn't struck her as the type who got along with all the girls in the way that Reverie did. She wasn't even sure he had any actual friends. There was still time though to work something out. It would be enough, she hoped anyway.

She finally drank what was in the glass she held, a smirk of her own growing when she saw his. She drew the glass away from her lips and shrugged innocently. "Of course it didn't, Reverie. I think long term...and sleeping with someone I plan to work closely with in the future isn't really something I have ever considered a good idea." she told him. Not that she hadn't thought about it. Of course she had, but she just had far more control over herself than many, it seemed. "Besides, you would have been too easy. It was far more fun to sneak around with Skip." she explained with a wink. Skip being the boy from district 4 during her games. He was an idiot, but he was dreamy. Until he tried to kill her of course.

They had an agreement. It was great that she had gone along with the idea, but mostly it was a group effort. District One had to do something different and they had come up with something new. They would look to see who would mesh the best as a pair instead of picking out singled bests in each gender. Reverie would work on making sure that he was able to do some pairs sparring and then they would know.

"Oh it is just sex, Fiona." He gave a shrug. However, the year that Fiona went through might have been when he had been making an attempt at the married life anyhow. It was all in the past and he didn't keep track of all the years at this point. Instead, he just shrugged. She had a different look on life, that didn't mean it was wrong, but it certainly wasn't right when it came to Rev.

His hand went to his chest with a gasp of surprise. "I am not easy. That is absurd. I save myself for only the most worthy." Reverie shook his head. He hadn't been involved with tributes every year and lately he hadn't even bothered since Victoria in the 120th. It was sort of cliche now that the rumor mill continued to grind about Circe and Hurricane. They had made it public, a show, and that was the last thing Rev ever did.

"Yes, Skip. I warned you about that. But, here we are anyway." He offered a smirk and finished off his wine. "Thank you for meeting with me Fiona."

Fiona was quite pleased with how this whole thing had actually gone. She was expecting some big, drawn out thing about how they, or rather she, was failing at mentoring and how they needed to figure things out. For some reason she had felt it was going to all be pinned on her. That maybe he was pissed she hadn't wanted anything to do with Antiope last games. She hadn't been ready for that, but this was much better. Actually working together and talking it over nicely. Coming out was actually worth it now.

"You are such a guy, Rev." Fiona said with a smirk, rolling her eyes. It was all in a joking manner. She didn't care at all. Reverie could have sex with whoever he wanted, whenever he wanted. "Even just sex could have made this whole thing ridiculously awkward." she commented. What if they hadn't meshed at all and it had just sucked and then they had that awkward, bad sex experience hanging over them? Reverie was probably far too sure of himself and his abilities to ever think about such a thing.

She giggled a bit at his reaction though, shaking her head. "That's not what I meant, Reverie. I meant you would have been easy for me. Just me." she winked at him and drank from another one of the wine glasses. She gave a bit of a yawn though. Wine always made her sleepy.

"It was worth ignoring you on that." Fiona added with a smirk. She set the empty glass down and nodded at Reverie. "Thank you for wine tour. This was a lot nicer than I was expecting." she admitted. It was time to get back home though. Still have that relaxation time she had been planning before getting Reverie's note.
