Collie Mae still couldn't believe that Kit was actually alive. Well, she had hoped that he was all along. She hadn't ever given up on him. But the fact that he was back with them was something that she had feared would never happen again. Ever since she had found him hiding in Fox's house, she had stopped by to visit for one reason or another nearly every day. First it was just to say that she was dropping in to check on Bear, then once she began to worry that Kit would think that she didn't trust him to care for the puppy she had to come up with other excuses to stop in. Since Kit still didn't remember her, she didn't want to make him uncomfortable by saying that she just wanted to see him. It had seemed like things would have to be taken slow. And she was fine with that.

It had been a couple of weeks with nearly daily visits to Victor's Village just to see Kit. Today when she made her way to the house where she knew that Kit would be, she had to walk through a downpour. It hadn't been raining when she had left her house, it was just one of those storms that show up in the middle of summer with no warning. She wasn't complaining, though, because it had been far too hot before it had begun to rain. Now, it was at least a little more bearable in the already hot District Ten.

Though, she knew that now she would have to track water all through the house when she got there to visit Kit... She was sure that Fox wouldn't mind a little water on his fancy plush carpets. At least, she hoped that he wouldn't. If he did then he really would have changed a lot more than she thought. After all, how many times when they were kids had they gone down to play in the muddy creek behind their houses and returned to his family's home covered from head to toe in mud and dripping wet? And they had never been happier.

Once she made it to the door, she didn't bother knocking. Collie Mae very rarely knocked. And especially not when it was absolutely pouring the rain down in buckets. She let herself into the door and hurried to close it behind her. Her hair was plastered to her face where the rain had ran through it and she shivered a bit upon stepping into the cooler house, one of the benefits of being a victor, she guessed. ”Kit! Fox! Anyone home!?!” She called out as she walked through the entry way and to the living room where she hoped she would find at least one of them... Dripping water all the way.

It had been a couple of weeks since Kit had been given Bear. He loved the dog so much. Not that it made him love Dusk any less of course, and the older dog would spend time with Kit all the time, but Bear was his and his responsibility. He took him for small walks, or played ball with him in the yard to get him a workout and he just all over did whatever he could to train him and give him all the love in the world. Collie Mae had been by most days since that first day when she'd given Bear to him, and Kit was starting to feel pretty comfortable around her.

She kept giving reasons for being there, checking on Bear at first, then other reasons, but something told Kit there was a little more to it, because every time she came by she spent quite a lot of time just hanging out with him. She'd learned to interpret his gestures more now, which was nice. Kit enjoyed the company most days. He was glad to be getting more comfortable with people who had used to be in his life, even though it was mostly Fox, Buffalo and Collie Mae at this point in time.

Today he was settled on the couch, watching the rain outside and cuddling Bear. They had been outside for a while before it had started raining, but once it did they'd gone back inside. It was nice to feel like he could be outside, at least in the yard without there being fear anymore. It was nice to start feeling a bit less jittery. Of course he still felt pretty awful sometimes still, he thought maybe that wasn't ever going to go away, and he still avoided crowds and the town center like the plague and refused to go far from the house without anyone else. Still he was doing better.

For the most part. He was finding himself having massive headaches after the memory of Rabbit's reaping had returned to him during the reaping after he'd first been found and since then it seemed like his mind was fighting with itself. The part of him that had filed all the old memories away was trying to keep it that way and the other part who wanted to remember was trying to do so. It was painful. Still, he was much better off now than he had been just a few short weeks ago, and it was nice.

He was just cuddling Bear and making soft little humming noises to him as he heard the door open and then Collie Mae's voice coming through the house, asking if anyone was around. He peeked up over the back of the couch and gave a small wave to show that yes, he was in fact there. When he spotted her his eyes widened a little. She was soaked. He pointed at her then at the bathroom to tell her she should get a towel. She needed to try off, she shouldn't stay all wet or she may get sick.

As her luck would have it, the sky had opened up and decided to pour the rain down while she was on her way to the Village to check in on Kit and Bear. Or at least it was her excuse that she merely wanted to check in on them and make sure that everything was going alright. The truth wasn't quite as simple. She enjoyed being with Kit. She enjoyed seeing him and knowing that he was safe, that he was alright. She was loving getting to know him again and getting to see that there was still pieces of the boy she had always loved still there beneath the surface. He seemed to be getting more comfortable with her as well and she couldn't be happier. But she still kept making excuses for why she was there. She didn't know why.

By the time she had made it to Fox's door and let herself inside, she was soaked. Her hair was plastered to the sides of her face and her clothing clung to her from the excess moisture. But it didn't matter. She called out to make sure that someone was home and the quick gesture of Kit waving over the back of the couch told her that indeed there was someone home. She forgot all about her soaking wet clothes and such as she gave Kit a big smile and a wave of her own. He didn't look to be having a bad day today, though she knew that he had had a few since she had been coming to visit him. She was glad for the days that he wasn't in pain.

While she may have not been worried about the fact that she was soaked, Kit seemed to be. She thought he maybe even looked a little bit worried as he pointed to her and then towards the bathroom. He was probably telling her to go and get dried off. By this point in time she could read his gestures pretty well. She walked into the bathroom and returned with a big fluffy towel in hand, using it to dry her hair as she walked over to the couch where Kit was. Though, she didn't sit on it because she didn't want to get it all wet. So, she instead sat on the floor in front of Kit like she had the first time she had found him here. She wrapped the towel around her shoulders. ”Started pouring when I was about half way here.” She explained in way of greeting, a smile on her lips as she did so.

Kit was indeed having a decent day. There was always sort of a weird pressure in his head these days, but at least it wasn't hurting right now and that was nice. He smiled as she gave him a huge smile and waved at him, then disappeared into the bathroom to get the towel he had wanted her to go get. That was something at least. She was reading his gesture correctly and came back out with one of the towels from the bathroom. Good. It was nice to know that she was getting to the point where she mostly understood what he was trying to say.
At least in the bigger picture of things.

It was hard to get anything beyond the basics across even though he and Buffalo had worked on some signs and given them meaning. He could communicate pretty well with Buffalo now. Mostly because they had worked pretty intensely on it and Kit had insisted that they work on it even when his head was giving him issues. He just wanted to at least be able to communicate to some degree. that was the important part to him. Nothing else. Even though it would be nice to be able to say all the things he wanted to say as easily as everyone else did it.

She came back and sat at the end of the couch and he sent her a small smile as she did. He nodded as she explained that it had started raining while she was on her way here and that's why she was all soaked. It made sense. It wasn't long since Kit and Bear had come inside either. They had just been playing when the rain started. He pointed to the back yard and made a slight throwing motion to try to tell her that's what they'd been doing when the rain started. Playing fetch.

Collie Mae didn't know about the fact that Kit always had something going on, he didn't tell her many details and such. She had just come to be able to tell when he was having a bad day. That much had come pretty easily to her since she had known him since they were both pretty little. Even if they had had a long stretch of time that they had been separated and a lot of things had happened with Kit in that time. He was still Kit, though. And there were still things about him that just reminded her that he was really the same Kit that she had known and loved all those years ago. He was still her Kit. Even if that part of him might be hidden pretty deep down in some memory that he had yet to bring to the surface.

She shivered a bit even beneath the towel that was wrapped around her shoulders. The fact that the houses in Victor's Village had air conditioning still was something that she hadn't gotten used to. They didn't have anything like that in normal houses here in the district. At least, she never had in her house growing up and still to this day. If you were lucky, you might be able to have a fan to run to keep your house from becoming stifling hot. Being wet like she was and with the still unfamiliar air conditioning, she couldn't help but pull the towel closer around her shoulders as she tried to hide the shiver. She didn't want Kit to worry.

When he smiled at her, she returned the gesture. She was so much happier now that he didn't look at her like she was going to try to harm him. She would never do anything to hurt him and she was glad that he had finally learned that. She had been perfectly happy to take all the time needed to show him that she wasn't a threat and it had paid off. He made the gesture like he was throwing a ball after pointing out towards the back of the house. She smiled. ”Been teaching him to play fetch, huh?” She said it with a smile. She knew that Bear was smart, so it wouldn't surprise her if he had already taught him but she hadn't seen it yet, so she just went with what she knew.

”He is getting so big already! It's hard to believe it has only been a few weeks.” She reached forward to scratch at the growing pup's ears as she said it.

Kit did notice the shiver beneath the towel. Mostly because he always paid acute attention to everything around him at all times. It was a constant and sometimes pretty exhausting thing, but maybe with time it would get easier to relax. He frowned a little and reached over to pull the blanket on the couch closer to him, then when he had a proper hold of it he unfolded it and wrapped it around Collie Mae's shoulders. Kit was used to the aircondition of course and he loved it. He loved being able to stay nice and cool when it was too hot outside or when he'd stayed out for too long and had gotten a sunburn. Sunburns were pretty common for him since he'd escaped, since his skin wasn't used to the sun at all, still he did enjoy the sun. At least when wearing the super dark sunglasses.

He was indeed much more relaxed around Collie Mae now than he once had been. He'd been so weary of her at first, but she'd proven to be nothing but nice and she had also given him Bear and the puppy had been such help to him since. Bear gave him so much comfort, whether he was hurting and just wanted the cuddles or if he was having a moment of panic. The dog was
there, him and Dusk both to make sure Kit was safe and happy. Of course usually Fox, Buffalo or Collie Mae was there too, he wasn't really alone that much, but when he was it was a great help to have Bear to help him keep anchored.

She asked if he was teaching Bear to play fetch and he nodded a little. He was careful not to be too enthusiastic because moving his head too much and too abruptly sometimes hurt. So he was always a bit careful about his head movements these days. Especially when he felt like he might be on the verge of another headache. Right now he was just being careful to be careful because he didn't want to risk starting to feel awful while Collie Mae was there. He wanted to just enjoy the company and the fact that he was feeling better than most days right now.

He nodded carefully again when she commented that he had gotten so big already. He really had. Bear was getting to the point where it was hard for Kit to lift him off the ground. It was a combination of Kit still being pretty weak and of Bear getting bigger. However, the dog usually managed to get around on his own and onto the couch and such so there wasn't too much of a need for Kit to pick him up anymore. All Kit had to do was to pet the spot beside him and Bear would jump up for cuddles. It was nice that the dog was such a cuddly thing and that it seemed to love the cuddles as much as Kit did.

Collie Mae held the towel tightly around her shoulders, letting the soft oversized towel soak up some of the extra water from her clothes. She tried to hide the shiver that she couldn't quite keep from happening but it seemed that Kit saw everything. Of course, he would. Though, he didn't make a big deal of it. He knew that she was a big girl and a little bit of a chill wasn't going to bother her. She was used to being out in the elements. She was used to dealing with the rain, the burning sun, the wind, snow and ice. All were things that had to be contended with here in the harsh landscape of District Ten. But Collie Mae couldn't think of anywhere else that she would rather be. She couldn't think of anything that would make her want to leave her home. Even on her worst days.

The blanket was wrapped around her shoulders and she welcomed the little bit of added warmth that it offered, the big blanket completely covering her whole body rather than just her shoulders as the towel did. She only hoped that the towel would be enough to keep her from getting the blanket soaked as well. She didn't want to leave a sopping wet mess behind in her wake. At least the blanket served the purpose of keeping the cool air from reaching her body which she was glad for. ”Thanks.” She offered with a genuine smile. It was moments like this that she got to see the old Kit, the Kit who had cared for her just as she had cared for him. The Kit that she hoped to someday get back. Sure, she loved this Kit as well. He was getting more comfortable around her and she was beginning to see him open up just a little bit more. She was able to read his signs better and better with each passing day. Each time visited he seemed a little happier to see her than he had the day before... That could just be her imagination, though. Wishful thinking.

When she asked if she was teaching him to play fetch, he nodded, though it struck her that he made the gesture rather carefully. This caused her to chew at the inside of her cheek a bit. She knew of his headaches and she hoped that he wasn't being plagued by one today. She didn't like it when he was in pain. She hated that he had to go through it all. But he seemed happy enough and she didn't see any pain in his eyes today as she had before... Hopefully today was a good day. ”I bet he is a quick learner.” She commented. He had taken to following her quite easily when he had been younger but she hadn't started him on any other training since she hadn't been planning on keeping him.

When he then agreed to the fact that the pup was getting big, she laughed a bit. ”Pretty soon Fox'll have to get a bigger couch for y'all to fit.” Bear was going to be a big dog... And it seemed that Dusk was still around Kit more often than not too. Of course, she doubted that a bigger couch would really matter. Bear seemed to like being as close to Kit as he could get and she doubted that would change as he got bigger. He was probably just going to end up with a very large lapdog if things kept up the way that they seemed to be. Not that she really thought that Kit would mind. ”I can help you teach him some tricks, if you'd like?” She had taken the role in training a lot of the dogs on their farm from a pretty young age. She had picked up quite a few things over the years and hand signals were one of the big things, since sometimes it wasn't practical to yell commands. It also made sure that the dog focused on you even more if they were always waiting for a signal.

Kit smiled a little as he wrapped the blanket around Collie Mae, she seemed to appreciate the blanket as well and that was nice. Adjusting to being around people had been a little hard on Kit. With the years of torture he'd been through he had problems trusting that people wouldn't hurt him. A too sudden movement could still throw him into a state of panic even if done by one of the people he'd come to trust since Fox had found him in the woods. Still, he was far more comfortable around people now than he had been and for each time Collie Mae came by. he felt a little more safe and comfortable around her. Of course he also didn't have it in him that someone who gave him such a wonderful gift as Bear could be bad in any way.

When she asked him if Bear was a quick learner he carefully nodded once more, Bear had picked up on the playing fetch super fast. He was now a very enthusiastic fetch player who loved running after whatever Kit threw at him. Of course he was still a puppy and he was enthusiastic in most things. Especially cuddling. The dog was the most cuddly being Kit had ever met, but Kit really didn't mind. He loved cuddling with Bear whenever he could. The dog was so soft and he was showing Kit some unconditional love. He also was quite protective of Kit already. The moment Kit showed discomfort he would growl at whatever he thought was the source of Kit's emotions.

Kit let out a weird, breathy laugh, but a true laugh non the less and smiled at the thought of there having to be a bigger couch to make them fit, but Kit didn't mind that the space was sort of cramped. He just loved being wedged in between the two dogs. They made him feel incredibly safe and protected and he slept better with Bear sleeping next to him on the bed as well. It was just another layer of protection. Nothing could happen to him when Bear was around. Not without whoever wanted to be mean to him getting into some serious trouble with the already pretty big dog.

Collie Mae offered to help him teach Bear some tricks and Kit grinned from ear to ear, forgetting for a moment that he was a little self-conscious about his smile. He nodded happily, a little too enthusiastically and instantly regretted the movement. It still didn't take the smile off his face though. He would love to be able to teach Bear some tricks. He also wanted to try to figure out how to tell Collie Mae about Bear having ran off one day and how he'd looked for him all over the place. He wanted to ask how they could avoid that.

Collie Mae knew by now that it was best not to make sudden movements around Kit... She had made the mistake enough times and had him flinch in response. It was how Collie Mae was, she tended to be a very animated person who spoke with her hands and the more excited she got, the more grand her hand gestures became. At first, it had been difficult for her to keep from waving her hands around so much when she talked, but she had learned to avoid doing so. It had also seemed to help with Kit growing more comfortable around her. Anything that would make him feel more comfortable around her was something that she was more than willing to do.

When she was actually able to get a laugh from Kit, her own smile only grew that much bigger. She loved to hear him laugh, even if the laugh was so different from the one she had heard so easily when they were younger. Kit had changed, but he was still Kit. And after the way she had found him here the first time she had brought Bear over, she was just glad for any joy she was able to bring him. Any comfort or happiness she was able to offer, she would.

At her offer, he seemed thrilled that she would help him out. His grin could light up the whole room in her opinion. And she was just happy to see it as he nodded enthusiastically. ”Do you have any of the treats left that I brought over last time?” She asked as she stood up, keeping the blanket around her shoulders with one hand. Maybe he wasn't expecting the lessons to start today, but why wait? That was usually Collie Mae's thoughts on things. She hadn't brought any treats with her this trip, so if he didn't have any left then they would have to make do with whatever they could do. Treats would just make things much easier starting out.
